Richlands High School art students have created portraits to be donated to The Memory Project: a charitable nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to make and donate portraits to youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, violence, and extreme poverty. Given that youth in such situations usually have few personal keepsakes, the purpose of the portraits is to provide them with meaningful mementos of their youth. The project also allows art students to practice kindness and Global awareness while enhancing their portraiture skills.  To do this, the students receive photos of children who are waiting for portraits, and then work in their art classroom to create the portraits. Once finished, the Memory Project delivers the portraits to the children, documenting their heartfelt appreciation and pleasure in a video that is sent to the students and their teacher, completing the circle of connection and caring. Please come to commend the students on their hard work for a good cause and consider sponsoring a child by making a $15 donation to help offset the cost that each student must raise to participate. Donations will be accepted through the exhibit, which closes on March 30th, so please share this with your family and friends, and encourage them to contribute.

A big thank you to the exhibit sponsors: Michael Smith & Barbette Patton.

This is the 4th year that Richlands art students have participated in the Memory Project. This year, the portraits have been created for children in Afghanistan. Past countries include Haiti, Ukraine, and Columbia. To see the videos of children receiving portraits, please click the links below!
